Hung Up on the Numbers

The Last Ten Years

September 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After ten years of staying home to raise my son I am ready to enter the workforce again.

Business Objects (BO) has bought Crystal Reports and in turn has been bought by SAP!

IBM has bought Cognos and Oracle had bought Hyperion. 10 years ago there wasn’t even a word for Business Intelligence and BO had virtually no competitors. I’ve reviewed Cindi Howson’s book on BO XI version 2 and it appears that little has changed in the semantic layer and universe design. But I can’t say that about the user interface.

Exciting things have happened in BI over the last ten years. I am itching to work with some of the cool tools. My current goal is to find project work that would allow me to update my reporting expertise in some of the popular Business Intelligence software packages such as; Business Objects/Crystal, Cognos, SAS, Hyperion, and/ or Qlikview.
